There is some great musical talent in Salem. After our last video segment posted we received a flood of emails about local talent. Today we are showcasing the super cute singer/songwriter Orange Nicole. Her warm friendly voice just makes you want to drift off…

Nicole is off to Europe in the new year with some shows in London so catch her locally when you can.

If you like her music you can find more of it on her myspace page and buy a CD or two over at Fools Mansion.

Apparently female teenie-boppers Aly and AJ stumbled into our city recently and found their way to Derby Books, one of my favorite bookstores. Yes it’s a freaking mess and you can’t find anything there but that’s why we love it so much. They also found out you should ask first – then video tape.

Video Thursday: The Cemetery

People seemed to enjoy our video segment last week. If there are enough regular submissions we will make it a weekly feature. So don’t be shy, send us a note and show your stuff.

This weeks Video feature comes to us from recent Salem transplant Jason Hawkins. Jason, who I’ve had the pleasure of having a beer with is an enthusiastic young film maker looking forward to his first Halloween Season here in Salem.

Jason writes a blog called MakeFilmWork.com which talks about various video, photography and computer related ongoings. From his bio Jason writes:

I shoot, edit and light for video. Sometimes I do motion graphics and some audio production (but not as much). I also enjoy photography and building things. You should know up-front that I’m not very good at building things. But I still like it.

Recently he made a short about one of Salem’s Cemetery’s, I’d love to see the follow up to this piece when the hordes over run Salem in late October.

I see lots of talent around Salem, there are artists, musicians, dancers, actors – practically any art form you can think of has a practitioner here in town. Recently Radio Scotvoid who we dubbed “The hardest working man in Salem’s music scene” sent us a video from his upcoming EP, Fragment (Consider Revising).
