What Not to Wear in Salem

Salem is an epicenter for fashion. Where else can you walk down the street any day of the year and see men (and women) wearing kilts, people in capes, tri-corner hats being worn by pirates and shop clerks alike, punk rockers in skin tight jeans and mohawks sitting next to blue hairs with their pants hiked up to their nipples? The first day I set foot in Salem I saw a woman in a full blown ball gown with a wand wearing Chuck Taylor sneakers walking down the street. Salem might as well be the next Milan.

Because Salemites have such a “unique” fashion sense Stacy and Clinton from TLC’s What Not To Wear came to town to pay one lucky person a visit. In addition to shutting down some streets, and towing some cars, they filmed some of our Puritans and Witches.

People gathered to watch as variety of shots were filmed around Derby Square and the Old Town Hall. The show hosts then filmed the initial interview with the person getting a makeover inside Old Town Hall.

Keep an eye out for the big reveal being filmed next week and the episode to air on TLC some time in February.

Deb’s Diner featured on Diner Wednesday

In case you didn’t get a chance to see Fox 25 this morning, VB made a field trip to the Pilgrim Diner right here in Salem.

It seems those guys at the fair and balanced news station love our little town. They have done zip trips here and a plethora of charity events. We hope you like this clip.

Video Sunday: Bad Cop

With the astronomical increase of people to Salem each weekend in October the cops are cracking down. You might remember that in a recent article about the night life here we mentioned how Salem was booming on weekend nights. The downside to our bars and restaurants being packed with revelers is that some tend to over imbibe and a random few show up only to cause trouble. Whatever the circumstances its best to mind your P’s and Q’s because a random few coppers aren’t going to take any flack what so ever.

We would love to see the entire event in order to see what transpired to provoke this police officer to take the actions he did. And as such we are not pointing fingers only spreading a word of warning.

Earlier this week we did a full write up on the Salem Film Fest which kicked off Thursday night. It’s going on all week and there are plenty of great movies to see and fun events at local establishment. We are big proponents of broadening our cultural horizons, this is a perfect opportunity to do just that.

This weekend the insider picks are easy to make. With the Salem Film Fest coming around only once a year its time to head to the movies. Stand out movies this weekend look like B.I.K.E, Everything Will be OK, and Red Without Blue. There are plenty of other great movies coming up during the week. If movies aren’t your bag, dance your booty off with Richie Rich Friday night.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick in Salem

Bill Belichick one of the most phenomenal and winningest NFL coaches of the modern era will be coming to Salem to speak.

Salem State College presents An Evening With Bill Belichick, Wednesday, April 30, 2008, 8:00 pm at the O’Keefe Sports Center 209 Canal St. Salem.

Sports commentators are calling New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, who continues to shatter league record after league record, the best football coach in the history of the game.

Sorry to all you Tom Brady and Randy Moss fans, this is a Coach only speaking event (no autographs). If it is half as good as some of their previous speakers this will be a real treat for those who enjoy the game of football.
