Holy guacamole!

Yo quiero burritos! Salem welcomes not one, but TWO taquerias!

Glory be! Someone has answered my prayers. I’ve lived in Salem going on seven years now and the one thing I’ve griped about from day one was that this town needs a taqueria! And finally, not only will there be one but TWO taquerias opening.

The first rumblings of a burrito joint coming to town was  back in May when Howling Wolf Taqueria dropped a dime to us that they were coming to town. We’ve been watching them build out the space in the old video store location (across from the Salem Fire Department).

We’ve been peeking at their website, looking at their menu more specifically, just salivating at the thought of getting our mitts on those burritos, tacos, nachos and quesadillas. And still, we wait…

But hiccups happen when trying to open a new business and the good news is that Howling Wolf Taqueria looks like it will be opening today (August 2nd)!

Then the other day we were walking down Essex St., just minding our own business, when we saw a very bright ‘coming soon’ sign for Comida Taqueria. I think I actually rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating. Happy to say, I wasn’t!

I checked out Comida’s website, which right now is just an empty shell with their basic info and Twitter feed. But their Facebook page does have frequent updates. Everything from promises to use fresh, local produce whenever possible, to being as environmentally friendly as they can, all the while teasing us relentlessly with items from their menu! My stomach is growling just thinking about it.

Comida is also planning to open sometime in August.

In the land of the $10 cheeseburger and barely any (affordable) Mexican cuisine to speak of, two mexican taquerias are better than none. Vivir para comer!
