Salem Heritage Days
The first week or so (10 days) of August in Salem MA is known as Salem Heritage Days. This 10 day celebration of Salem offerings brings us food, fun and street fairs. Yesterday one of the premier events of Salem Heritage Days happened in the Salem Common, the Ice Scream Bowl.
Formerly known as the Scooper Bowl (I’m guessing the Jimmy Fund had a hand in Salem’s event name change) the Ice Scream Bowl was a big hit. This year the event was layed out on the Common to allow for much better foot traffic flow and less crowd overflow onto the street. The ice cream providers were similar to those from last years Scooper Bowl and included some we profiled on our Salem Ice Cream Roundup post. Along with the yummie ice cream there was plenty of fun stuffs for the kids to do.
In case you missed yesterdays Ice Scream Bowl on Salem Common we have a treat in store for you. The Salem Insider along with renown foodie and fellow blogger The Hungry Mouse are bringing you a series of Ice Cream Shop reviews starting tomorrow!
But wait, there’s more…
Salem Heritage Days is about more than just Ice Cream, it’s also about pizza. On the Salem Common Thursday night starting at 6PM the annual Salem Best Pizza Competition will be held. This is another great event that really packs them in. We have done a good job seeking out all the Salem Pizza joints and reviewing them for you but some still elude our list. We will be adding a few shortly so if there are any particular pie parlours you want us to review just let us know.

I thought about stopping on my way past heading home from work, but the LINE was a mile and a half long!
i really coulda used some ice cream too… sigh.
Me, too. Same with the pizza thing. I was by myself, though, and figured standing in line alone would have been embarrassing :/
At least they have the outdoor movies every Thursday now. Sweet! This is the kind of stuff the Common should be used for. Shame it’s only this month.
it would be nice if it went through september and into early october… the weather is still nice enough for outdoor movies.
ah well.
