I actually go to the Shanty for the food. Diane is a rocking chef, and the menu is far more creative (and better executed) than your standard bar fare. The newest addition I’m looking forward to: custom mac & cheese with a few veggie sides. Yum!

5 star dining? Bella Verona and The Grapevine. Never had a bad meal. And the flavor is worth every penny of the price. The Shanty’s character stands out, as does the delicious, basic menu of the Witch’s Brew, and Vic Station has the best salad bar around. I never send visitors to Fins or Capt’s due to the price vs taste vs genericness.

We made it a point not to raise any of our prices this year, not the beer, not the food – nuthin’. We’ve got some new fancier things too, but we’re hoping to give you a good time for a great price this season.

PS Want some solid, quality dining? 62 at the Wharf is our favorite new place. The food is spot-on delicious.

There is a time and place for 5 star dining (not that I would lump Capt’s of Fins in the 5 star category) but these days it’s all about bang for your buck. I agree some of the places around town have raised their prices a bit too much to be worth going but thankfully the Shanty isn’t one of them.

Between the shanty and Reds who needs 5 star anyway? 5 star is way over rated. I go out to get good value, good food and good company in pretty much that order…
I don’t patronize the fancy places because a meal is meant to be enjoyed and lingered over and those who want the Art Nouveau experience can go Fins or Capt’s grill which both serve really good food but the “experience” is wasted on me because they have raised prices to such a degree that I don’t even consider them any more for dinner.
