Video Wednesday: Mixin’ it up

Written by Glen Hughes on November 12th, 2008 4 Comments

Film maker Mark Lovett recently put together this piece showcasing Salem’s own Radio Scotvoid and Noel Snow live at Gulu Gulu Cafe.  It shows you a little of what you are missing if you don’t get out there and enjoy what Salem has to offer.

Got a video that shows off Salem or some of its talented people?  Let us know.

I agree. It’s good to see artists like rsvp and Voodoo DJ making positive contributions to the scene in Salem.

MAN, Scott, I had no idea that you used so many reggea, Soul and funk samples in your work…Im going to have to come check you out, and possibly bring some stuff to jam with you, if you’ld be down for that…..

cheers Sharkton, Glen and DJ CB, just saw your replies!

Well Noel and I are old-skool at heart (88-92) and we delve into the crates now and then. regarding your old post on your myspace (DJ CB) - I do agree that modern “hip-hop” is not real - first of all there are no samples in the newer hip-”pop” music and for me hip-hop is sampling/turntables/mc’s aswell as graf and bboys!

Mind you our sets are varied and we try to keep it fresh everytime we play…we very rarely play for the dancefloor and more for the headz, but try to through a few samples in there for novelty.

Lately we have been throwing in more electronica styles aswell as reggae and house beats. Using the laptop I am able to keep the flow going as Noel throws in cuts and samples realtime with added Kaos pad fx!

This Friday Dec 7 with feature Matt Kane (WZBC), Noel Snow and I - spinning all vinyl jazz/funk/triphop/electronica/techno…should be a good night. Maybe we should have you come do a 1 hr set sometime?

new Years eve at the gulu will be Noel and I spinning nothing but dirty old funk/disco and soul - watch this space!

thanks again you guys for the support and for accepting our vision for a fresher North Shore/Salem dj music scene.

    peace
