Insider Picks

Looking over the listings this weekend Friday nights winner is the unlikely paring of Catfish Lucy and Radio Scotvoid Productions. I want to find out if Dodge Streets booking agent is a genius or a dim-wit for paring a cool and wack DJ with the blues tunes of CFL.  Saturday hit it early over at Gulu-Gulu for The Jazz Navigators at 8pm then get your boom boom on late night with DJ Cee Block around the corner at O’Neills.

The sign of a good opening dj is to complement the sounds of the headliner - CFL is defo more than just blues - they be funky too - Ken Clark is on keys, so there will be rumblin’ basslines and bad-ass solo’s for the funk heads!!!

So i’ll be keepin’ it chilled but funky people!

Come check it out and see the deal.
    Cheers for the promo!

Catfish Lucy is not your average blues band! Should be a great mix

    wack ?

    1) Lame, sorry ass, aint even legit

    2) Hip hop artists (MCs, DJs, B-boys, etc) who are typically aspiring and full of themselves, yet their style is an insult to real hip hop because it (1) copies another artist’s style, (2) is mainly driven by commercial aspirations, or (3) is basically incompetent with no hope of improving.

    3) Wack = weakly executed flashy moves in place of true substance.

Even the wackest rapper can be a commercial success with a major label behind him.

    man..?

Wack as in amusingly eccentric or irrational. Putting RSVPs funky beats with soulful bluesy CFL are two great tastes that you wouldn’t think would taste great together but do. Nice.

Well Glen, you were right - it was tough for me to cater to the CFL crowd - the soulfulness of Suzanne’s vocals mixed with Ken Clark’s killer keys was tougher than I thought, but their guitarist wasn’t there and their sound on Friday was very stripped down with some major funky drumming. That helped me along as I kept the vibe on the down-low with subtle drum break tracks for the headz with a few old skool hiphop tunes mixed in their for the groovers. All-in-all a good night I thought - Kept me on my toes.

    cheers
