Salem News building follow up

Written by admin on November 12th, 2007 4 Comments

It didn’t take long at all. Three days after I discussed the removal of historic buildings, the Salem News building was razed. Thankfully they took the time to save some of the architectural features.

How sad. I’m glad you posted just in time for a better view.

I agree, it is sad, but we must move on and unfortunately that building just couldn’t handle an upgrade. Hopefully what they put up will be in line with the other structures around it.

Do you know what they are doing to the portion of the building above Passage and Edgewater? Great site btw.

When I last spoke with one of the Edgewater folks I was told that “they are working on the second floor” apparently to be used as commercial space. But my guess is that nothing will be done with that until the new building is built. If you look at that space currently you can see open windows and the door in the photo above is now covered up with blue tarp.
